In Christ We have Everything
Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So, we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NIV)
It is impossible to have a need that Christ cannot meet. We are complete in Him. There’s simply no other way to put it, He is my everything! He is constantly at work changing, removing, transforming, shaping and taking out the debris and clutter from our hearts. Because God will never be caught off guard by the things that seem to spin out of control in our sphere, our world, we can release our fears and feel secure, even in the midst of cataclysmic changes. We can exert our will to trust Him in all situations and circumstances, knowing that the future is absolutely assured can free us to live not just for ourselves or the moment, but to live for Christ.
We cannot be fooled by the things that we see, The appearance of things that have the power to define us if we allow them to be paramount in our lives. I know that it is tough: we go to sleep with the news, wake up to the latest update on the coronavirus pandemic. We flip the channel and we hear about the grave state of the economy. The projections of joblessness and the anticipated death toll globally and nationally are frightening. Some of us may have first-hand experience in these losses. We ponder things like: stay in completely, go out only for food, wear a mask, don’t wear a mask, is it airborne, can I get it if I have no outside contact?
All the things above intensify our anxiety and stress levels to the point of dysfunctionality. Our text today points to a supernatural reality. The things that are visible are brief and fleeting, while things that are invisible are everlasting. What we see does not define what really is.
